Eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) is a procedure that will reduce the bags and dark circles under the eyes removing excess wrinkles and fat deposits providing the client with a much more vibrant and less tired look.  Many people suffer from this condition and often complain that they are tired of looking so tired.  It is a common condition that also develops with the aging process creating a tired and much older look.  Many people are very frustrated by this condition and it can be easily reversed by Dr. Schreiber.  The blepharoplasty surgery is often performed in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a facelift or rhinoplasty (nose surgery). Talk with Dr. Schreiber to determine what procedures are necessary to acheive your facial aesthetic goals. You can fill out an online appointment request form or call his office at (410) 902-9800 to schedule your complimentary consultation.

Reasons for Considering Eyelid Surgery:

  • Dark circles or bags under the eyes.
  • Excessive skin or wrinkles surrounding the eyelids.
  • A tired appearance or puffiness due to inherited factors.

Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) – General Procedure

The eyelid procedure requires tiny incision cut into the natural contours of the eyes and in most cases leave no visible scarring.  Dr. Schreiber will usually work on the upper eyelids to remove any fatty tissue and he will tighten loose skin.  He will then begin working on the lower eyelids to eliminate puffiness and reduce any dark circles under the eyes. Newer techniques may include Botox injections to firm fine lines and wrinkles.

In most cases the surgery takes one to three hours and can be performed at a local surgicenter or hospital.

Dr. Schreiber performs eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland, the SurgiCenter of Baltimore in Owings Mills, Maryland, Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Maryland, and at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. All of these facilities are easily accessible from Towson, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Pikesville, Ruxton, Lutherville, Howard County, Annapolis, and Washington D.C.

Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) – Insurance coverage

In some cases insurance with cover upper eyelid surgery.  In order for insurance to cover the procedure it must be determined that the eyelid is impairing your vision.  Insurance companies will require that you have a “visual field test” performed by your opthalmologist.  Dr. Schreiber is one of a few Maryland Plastic surgeons that accept insurance coverage of this procedure.

Recovery Process of Eyelid Surgery

Post operative instructions for eyelid surgery requires plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the heeling process and reduce the recovery time.  In most cases there will be minor pain and it can be treated with oral medication.  Complications with this procedure are rare and seldom when a patient follows the post-operative directions given after the surgery.
